This format is a binary format where the server certificate, any intermediate certificates, and the private key are stored in a single encrypted <strong>file<\/strong>. PFX <strong>files<\/strong> are usually found with the extensions .<strong>pfx<\/strong> and .<strong>p12.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2>Exporting\/Backing Up a .pfx File<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Enter Run<\/h3>\n<p>From the <strong>Start<\/strong> screen, type <strong>Run <\/strong>and click enter.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Type mmc<\/h3>\n<p>In the <strong>Run<\/strong> window type <em>mmc<\/em> and then, click <strong>enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Allow MMC to make changes<\/h3>\n<p>In the <strong>User Account Control<\/strong> window, click <strong>Yes<\/strong> to allow the MMC to make changes.<\/p>\n<h3>4. Select Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/h3>\n<p>In the <strong>Console<\/strong> window, click <strong>File &gt; Add\/Remove Snap-in<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>5. Expand the Certificates folder<\/h3>\n<p>In the <strong>Console<\/strong> window, in the <strong>Console Root<\/strong> section, expand <strong>Certificates (Local Computer)<\/strong>, also expand the folder that contains the certificate that you want to export\/back up, and then, click the associated <strong>Certificates<\/strong> folder. Click Next<\/h3>\n<p>Click <strong>Next <\/strong>on the <strong>Welcome to the Certificate Export Wizard<\/strong> page..<\/p>\n<h3>12. Check Password<\/h3>\n<p>On the <strong>Security<\/strong> page, check <strong>Password<\/strong>, enter and confirm your password.<\/p>\n<h3>15. Browse to the file that you want to export\/backup<\/h3>\n<p>On the <strong>File to Export<\/strong> page, browse and select the file that you would like to export\/backup.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Note:<\/strong> Make sure to note the filename and the location where you saved the .pfx file.<\/em><\/p>\n<h3>16. Verify your settings<\/h3>\n<p>On the <strong>Completing the Certificate Export Wizard<\/strong> page, verify that the settings are correct and then, click <strong>Finish. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You should receive <em>&#8220;The export was successful&#8221;<\/em> message. The .pfx file is now saved to the location that you selected.<\/p>\n<h2>Importing your SSL Certificate (.pfx) File to a new Server.<\/h2>\n<h3>1. Launch the Run window<\/h3>\n<p>From the <strong>Start<\/strong> screen, type <strong>Run <\/strong>and click enter.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Enter mmc<\/h3>\n<p>In the <strong>Run<\/strong> window, type <em>mmc<\/em> and then click <strong>enter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<h3>3.
