How to add a CAA record on Hostgator

Step-by-step instructions on adding a CAA record on Hostgator

CAA records allow you to determine which Certificate Authorities can and can’t issue SSL certificates for your website. It’s a useful tool in fighting mis-issuances. Though it’s not mandatory for end-users, we highly recommend taking the five minutes required to add a CAA record to your DNS.

How to add a CAA record in Hostgator

  1. In the Record Editor, click Add and select CAA

  2. Select the Provider tab

  3. Enter the appropriate CAA information

    1. Name – Type @ to point directly to your domain name
    2. Flags – Enter the number 0
    3. Tag – Type Issue if you want to enable Wildcard certificates for this domain
    4. Value – Enter the value of the CAs you would like to enable
    5. TTL – Leave a default of 1 hour
  4. Click Add Record

Update a CAA record in Hostgator

  1. In Record Editor, find the record you want to change and click the small pencil icon below it

  2. Update the information

  3. Click Update Record
