Are you receiving notifications that you need to re-issue your SSL Certificate? Use our tool to quickly check if you need to reissue.
Enter your domain name below to find out if you need to reissue your SSL/TLS certificate to benefit from the new PKI backend. Make sure you enter fully-qualified domain name (exclude any wildcards).
Why is this happening?
On October 31, 2017, DigiCert, Inc. officially acquired Symantec Corporation’s Certificate Authority business, which includes all assets related to Symantec’s website security, SSL/TLS and PKI products. As the first phase of this transition, beginning on December 1, 2017, Symantec, GeoTrust, RapidSSL and Thawte certificates will now be issued from a new, upgraded PKI where the validation processes will be performed by DigiCert on behalf of Symantec.
As a result of this merger/acquisition, existing holders of Symantec SSL/TLS certificates need to reissue their certificates to get onto the new infrastructure depending on the original date of issuance of the certificate in question. If you have an SSL certificate from Symantec, GeoTrust, RapidSSL, or Thawte, you will need to reissue your SSL/TLS certificate according to the recommended timeline below:
- For Chrome 66 Release
With an expected launch date in March 2018, Chrome 66 will begin to distrust old Symantec-issued (Symantec, GeoTrust, RapidSSL, Thawte) SSL/TLS certificates that were issued before June 1, 2016. These certificates should be replaced/reissued before March 15, 2018
- For Chrome 70 Release
With an expected launch date in October 2018, Chrome 70 will begin to distrust old Symantec-issued (Symantec, GeoTrust, RapidSSL, Thawte) SSL/TLS certificates that were issued between June 1, 2016 to Dec 1, 2017. These certificates should be replaced/reissued before September 13, 2018.
